‘ShareAccount’ lets you share your account without giving out your password – #Startup

Have you ever wanted to share a Google or Facebook account with a friend or business associate so that they could use it for a short time? 1 option is that you physically hand over your laptop but what if he/she is in another room or in another country? You will then have to digitally share your account info & password, exposing yourself to hackers. ShareAccount solves this problem by letting you share a clone of your browser session, using crypto to make sure that only the recipient can decode it.

ShareAccount is a free, open source Chrome browser extension that cryptographically assures that your password & other session info won’t get hacked & doesn’t involve 3rd party servers. The extension uses private/public keys, so no actual private data is transferred when establishing the session & no open text communication is involved.

To use it, find someone you want to share the account with, making sure that both of you have the ShareAccount extension installed. Then, click on the extension icon from the Site from which you want to share an account. Ask the recipient to give you their code (available on their ‘Receive Account’) & press ‘Share Account’ to enter the code, with an optional timeout. Finally, press ‘Share’, copy the result & send it to the recipient.

The recipient, while still on ‘Receive Account’, pastes the text on the ‘Share result’ textbox & presses the ‘Receive’ button’. He/she can then enters into a new tab with your relevant cookies & username/password of the account you’ve shared.

Source code for the extension is freely available on GitHub here, & it’s also available on the Chrome Web Store here. ShareAccount is under development by Argentina-based programmer (& photographer) Nicolas Santangelo, who is also well known for other popular Chrome extensions like Hangouts Notifications & Split/It.
