Online reports have said that for around a week, hackers used Yahoo’s ad network to send malicious bits of code to computers that visit Yahoo’s collection of Websites.
The attack started on July 28. It could have targeted millions of people Online. According to reports, the scheme was shut down by Yahoo last Monday. It worked like this: Hackers bought ads across the Internet giant’s sports, news & other Sites. When a computer running Windows visited such a site, it downloaded the malware code. From there, the malware hunted for an out-of-date version of Adobe Flash, which it could use to commandeer the computer — either holding it for ransom until the hackers were paid off.
