The Bose AR glasses, which was unveiled at the just concluded SXSW festival, will be shipped to partner developers & eye-wear manufacturers this summer. Bose has already earmarked US $50 million funds for the project, & will be working with software developers like TripAdvisor, Yelp, Strava & so on as well as hardware companies like Warby Parke & Ray-Ban to perfect the technology & bring new applications to it.
The Bose AR glasses collects data using embedded motion sensors & combines this with GPS information from a connected phone via Bluetooth. This helps to triangulate the user’s approximate location. The glasses also have nine-axis sensors that can tell which direction you are looking or moving. There are small focused speakers on the Glasses which help to direct sound towards the wearer’s ear. It works both indoors & outdoors.
