YouTube all set to introduce subscription service

If you are an avid YouTube watcher, here’s some news. You can get rid of those pesky ads appearing before the videos. Before you do cartwheels, wait. To avail of that, you will need to subscribe to the videos.
Google, owner of YouTube, has sent out an email to YouTube partners on Wednesday talking of details about the upcoming launch of a new subscription-based model for the service. Looks like YouTube may have finally found a way to generate revenue & embark on its way to profits. The email mentions that YouTube viewers will soon have the wherewithal to remove all advertising from the Site for a flat monthly rate. A story by news agency Bloomberg said this fee could be about US $10 a month per subscriber.
For that sum, the video/image ads from YouTube videos will be scrubbed. The YouTube subscription service, according to Online reports, is expected to become available within the next few months. Besides ad-free videos, the new service will also allow users to store videos offline on their mobile devices. It will also let video creators put their videos behind a paywall so that only subscribers can access them through the proposed premium version.
Subscription revenues will be pooled, with partners receiving 55% of the total. Individual partners’ cuts will be apportioned based on how much time their viewers spend watching their channels.
But while all this could be good news for YouTube subscribers, on the flipside, for video creators, this could be bad news. Creators may be required to participate in the subscription offering, or every video on their channels will be set to private. The move will likely upset some creators.
YouTube video makers, however, will not have the option to opt out of the new subscription-based model. Should creators choose not to accept the terms of the YouTube subscription service, all of their videos will be set to ‘private’.
