YouTube Gaming App to shut down – Company announcement

YouTube gaming app

Gamers, listen up. YouTube has just said it will no longer maintain a separate app targeting gaming or ‘live’ game streaming.

It was 3 years ago that the YouTube Gaming app was launched. YouTube says the response was so overwhelming that it decided to bring it over to the main Site.

In 2015, YouTube launched YouTube Gaming, where features like Game Pages for better discoverability, Super Chat & Channel Memberships to help fans show support for their favorite creators, were tested.

Today, we’re launching a new Gaming destination to give gamers a home on YouTube! You can find the new YouTube Gaming destination at youtube.com/gaming.

How To Go About It

At the very top of the page you’ll see personalized gaming Content based on what you like to watch. You’ll also see top ‘live’ games & the latest gaming videos from your subscriptions, bringing the best of uploaded videos & ‘live’ gaming to one destination.

Users can now find gaming videos from all over YouTube, related to that specific game on new game pages. These include popular videos, ‘live’ streams, & other games from the same publisher or developer.

For smaller developers, YouTube will be highlighting gaming creators who are “On The Rise” on the Gaming destination & in Trending. Each week it will showcase a new up & coming gaming creator to help more fans discover their Content. This will initially be for the US community but will soon be rolled out to more countries.

As per YouTube’s estimates, there are over 200 million gamers who come on its platform every day, watching over 50 billion hours of gaming Content in the last 12 months alone.

All these are reasons why in March 2019, it will retire the YouTube Gaming app & focus all of its gaming efforts on YouTube.
