Twitter’s latest data saver mode to help you tweet light

In an attempt to take the load off your devices & help you better your bandwidth, Twitter today announced an update to reduce the data usage with data saver mode on iOS & Android. The updated feature allows users to load images in lower quality. Moreover, it also prevents videos from being autoplayed.

Nevertheless, it needs to be seen as to how different it is from its Twitter Lite app. In a series of tweets recently, Twitter had highlighted features of its Twitter Lite app; Bookmarks & night mode being some of them. Bookmarks helps you save tweets for later if you are running out of data. You may play videos or view images whenever it’s convenient for you or when you are in the ambit of a Wifi network. For this you can tap the share button & select ‘Add Tweet to Bookmarks’ to save. To access Bookmarks, you may tap on your profile photo in the top left corner.

As for the night mode for “easy reading”, you may tap your profile photo to direct you to the dash menu. Thereafter, you may toggle the slider next to night mode giving the timeline a darker theme.

Data Saver setting was offered by Twitter for Windows, Twitter Lite & its mobile Website. Owing to a test underway, users may have also noticed the Data Saver option on iOS or Android & on Twitter’s desktop Website, stated a report by TechCrunch. That Web test also involved shuffling other features, for example putting Trends underneath the “Who To Follow” suggestions or making “Night Mode” a more visible option.

According to the report, a company spokesperson confirmed that post launch, the Data Saver feature is broadly available to all iOS & Android users.

As explained earlier, users may visit the Data Usage settings in the iOS or Android mobile app & toggle on or off option. Once enabled, images will not only load in lower quality but videos also won’t autoplay. However, if you wish to have a look at images in higher quality, you may tap the icon & select “Load High Quality”.

Moreover, the updated Twitter version has other features & fine-tuning too. According to the app’s update in the App Store, some of the features include: users can take a call on who is part of group chats, VoiceOver improvements in polls & better labels for some types of Twitter ads.
