The Smartians way to infuse new life into old, dead gadgets

Technology is always on the move. The current fad in the market is for smart remote controlled devices. With innovations, more & more of these smart devices are being turned out on a regular basis. Given the current rate at which things are progressing, many people end up having to change their old gadgets lacking in smart functionality for new & usually more expensive ones. But why replace when you can simply add? ‘Smartians’, a new kit of Cloud connected attachments, motors & DIY kits make it possible to add the much desired smart functionalities of new products to your old gadgets. So within moments you old devices turn into Cloud connected devices.

With Smartians, you will be able to perform simple mechanical functions like flipping a switch or pushing a button on your old device without any need to replace it. For example, with a kit you can stick a Smartians motor next to your old mechanically controlled thermostat & make use of the kit’s mobile application to program the motor to turn on the heat on your thermostat at a time convenient to you.

With Smartians, you will be able to set controls for your other otherwise mechanical devices, based on your location, a specific routine or timer, or by integrating it with platforms you are already using such as Echo, Google Home or Weather APIs.

The central hub for controlling the kit is Cloud connected, & will control all the Smartians within your home. It can also be used for charging them. You also don’t have to worry about range since the hub can communicate with Smartians that are far away by passing the message to the others within the range.

Although the Smartians kit isn’t available in commercial quantities yet, the proof-of-concept kit has been created. With time, the product is expected to see more innovation and will be produced in commercial quantities.

Andrew Spitz, co-founder of Frolic Studio, the company behind Smartians, has said elsewhere that when they hit the market the kit should cost around US $200.
