Quick & fast end-to-end Web testing – #Startups

Testing Web pages for expected functionality is a task on every Web developers’ ‘todo’ list. Nevertheless, this is, without doubt, no simple task. Oftentimes, Web development teams are split into sections – each part responsible for 1 aspect of the code, such as front-end, back-end or testing integration. In most cases, the final program must be tested to see that all the separate elements work seamlessly as a unified entity. To achieve this coders would need to install & run a host of software. In most cases, would still not be able to record or measure the results.

TestCafe Studio is a testing IDE(Integrated Development Environment), which offers support for running Web pages in all major browsers, such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Opera…also, tools are available to test code in the Cloud. This means that instead of requiring a set of tools to run tests, TestCafe Studio comes to the rescue, with a single application capable of performing all necessary measures for confirming if Web pages are functioning correctly.

If your running Node.js on your device, TestCafe Studio can be installed via the npm JavaScript package manager, or the software may be installed by downloading the installer for Mac or Windows, while Linux users can install via .zip.

Once the environment is installed, performing tests is a simple procedure:

  1. Open TestCafe Studio, & enter the URL of the page you want to test.
  2. Click the ‘Start Recording’ button – TestCafe launches a browser to test your activity on the page.
  3. Tests can be organized by creating a test directory on your device to store results – TestCafe’s Explorer Panel can be used to perform a test for the directory. The Explorer Panel has a ‘Create Fixture’ button for you to set up a Web page test. You can select a preferred browser from the drop down menu to begin recording the test.
  4. Interactions on the page are measured & recorded according to selectors on-page, allowing you to confirm if the expected result is achieved when using the code, for instance, if the Web page needs to send an email to a user after they’ve entered an email address in a form, TestCafe Studio, will check to see if this action is, indeed, performed.

All results are collected in TestCafe’s test editor for perusal. Currently, the application is available, free for ‘preview’ to developers, with the proviso that users return feedback on the app, so that TestCafe can gauge performance.
