This one is a ‘periodic table’ of popular WordPress plugins

popular wordpress plugins

It’s a well known fact that WordPress is the most widely used Content Management System (CMS) around the world, with 25% of all Websites using it, as per 1 statistics. The sheer size of the developer base using the platform & the humongous number of plugins available makes it really difficult sometimes to find the right one for your particular needs.

To help you in the quest to find the right formula, you can now peruse ‘The Periodic Table of WordPress Plugins’. Here, you’ll find the 108 most popular plugins based on the most active installations of each 1.  These are organized & presented in a periodic table, of course (who’d’ve ever thought this was a good idea?), starting with Akismet & ending with Sitemap.

When you click on on the table position of a plugin, a descriptive popup tells you a bit about it & lets you access the official WP directory so that you can download & install the plugin.  Taking into account the fact that amongst the more than 35,000 plugins that are available for WP, there several of them that haven’t been updated, & may not work correctly in current versions of the CMS, or whose performance is lackluster, Plugintable.com is an excellent way of restricting your search to the most popular plugins, that you know are currently held in good stead with the community.

By the way, if you’re also interested in WP Themes you may also want to take a look at, you guessed it, the ‘Periodic Table of WordPress Themes’. Both these sites are published by Spinpress, a Swiss company founded by Pascal Birchler, who is one of the organizers of WorldCamp Switzerland.  Spinpress is a digital magazine that reports on the WP community & ecosystem from contributors all over the world.
