‘Odoo’: The all-in-1 business management software suite

Odoo, which boasts a 2 million worldwide user base, is an open-source suite of integrated management apps tailored to the meet the needs businesses of all sorts, especially those having a heavy Web presence.

An enterprise can mix & match the platform’s Website building tools, modules for sales, marketing & accounting, complete CRM & ERP solutions (it was previously known as OpenERP) & it is highly customizable, both via its open-source developer community & Apps-Store & its large network of partners.

The ERP aspects include HR management, project management, accounting, invoicing, purchasing, manufacturing, inventory & warehouse management. Odoo’s CRM, marketing & sales apps are aimed at helping with market expansion, including ‘live’ chats, events, lead automation, email marketing, market surveys, subscription management, adwords optimization Point of Sales (POS) & Quote Builder.

Odoo’s SEO friendly Website building environment helps build modern responsive mobile-ready Sites via a drag & drop interface & supports E-commerce, blogs & forums. Customizable themes can be added via the Odoo Apps Store. It has features such as a “Promote Tool” which suggest SEO keywords according to the most searched words on Google, a link tracker for marketing campaigns & support for A/B testing with Google Analytics integration, to name a few. You can also easily integrate with Odoo’s modern e-commerce Online store as well as with Ebay & with delivery platforms such as UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc.

Pricing, Partners & Open-source Community

There is a freely available community maintained open source version of Odoo 9 that can be downloaded from the company’s Website. The community is very active & consists of more than 20000 contributors. It’s available from source as well as in builds for Windows & Linux.  The enterprise version is available for a fixed yearly per-user fee for Windows & Linux & includes all of the modules except themes, which can be obtained from the Apps Store.

If you don’t have the means or the inclination to host your own server instance of Odoo, an Online Cloud version is also available. It’s also priced on a per-user basis, but for a monthly fee, & according to the Apps which you use (the non-Cloud Enterprise version gives you access to all of the Apps).

Optionally, an implementation service ‘Success Pack’ can be contracted, which includes the support of an Odoo Consultant, in packs ranging for 25 to 100 hours.  Finally, if advanced integration & customization is required, one of the more than 500 certified worldwide Odoo partners can be hired.
