Microsoft Surface Pro 6: What’s underneath the hood

This article was 1st published on our sister Site, Digital World Native.

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 6 Tablet/laptop hybrid latest version that was showcased during a media event that was held in New York on Tuesday, comes after more than a year since it made the last update to the Surface Pro Tab.

While the Surface Pro 6 still retains its familiar design, the most obvious change to its body is that it now comes in a matte black color finish. This is the 1st of its kind of that color in more than 5 years. The last time Microsoft used the black color on a Surface Pro is since the release of its original & the subsequent Surface Pro 2.

The entire body of the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 comes in the matte black finish, except the keyboard which you can always swap out for a different color if you want. Besides, Microsoft did not introduce any new changes to the design of the Tab’s body, there are still no USB-C ports or the Mini DisplayPort for connectivity which is odd since the company has already added the new connector to Surface Book 2 & the Surface Go. Instead, the device still uses its Surface Connector for charging & also has a USB port. Microsoft also retained the 12.3-inch display & made no major changes to the kickstand of the Surface Pro 6 as well. The device also has 16GB of RAM.

But it is on the inside that Microsoft has made major changes. The refreshed Surface Pro 6 now comes with Intel’s 8th Gen processors. Microsoft’s new Surface Pro 6 will have Quad Core Intel Core i5 processors which are the latest processors from Intel. The major advantage of this, according to Panos Panay, Microsoft’s Surface chief is that the device’s cooling will be greatly improved. In addition to this, it will also be a lot faster as Microsoft claims that the Surface Pro 6’s processing speed will be 67% more than that of previous models of the device.

With the internal improvements, there’s also an expected improvement in the battery life. According to the company, the battery of the Surface Pro 6 should last for about 13.5 hours which is an improvement over the previous models. The Surface Pro 6 should be available for sale from the 16th of October at a starting price of $899.
