Remembering passwords is a common pain point among consumers, for both apps & Online services. Most people subscribe to or run services on their smartphones & computers that need login verification. These often is a lengthy (& irritating) process.

Aware of this, Microsoft claims to have come with the right solution – the Microsoft Authenticator. It’s an app that makes life a lot easier since it provides digital authentication for apps such as Microsoft Office, among others, without having to remember any passwords.

The app is available on the Google Play & Apple stores. It offers various assistant methods to log you into your favorite Microsoft service or software suite, much faster & more securely than ever before. You can also log into other services, too, across desktop & on your mobile computing device.

To use Microsoft Authenticator, you’ll need to do this: 

  1. Download the app from a device appropriate store.
  2. You’ll be given an option to add either a personal, school/work or other account.(other being non-Microsoft accounts, such as Facebook, Github, Google, which are also supported).
  3. Sign in to your Microsoft Account.
  4. Follow the prompts to set up device authentication via an SSL certificate issued to your device. Additionally, a second layer of verification is provided via a fingerprint or facial recognition.
  5. Now, when you need to log in to a service, whether on your desktop or on your phone, you’ll be presented with the usual log in form, but also an additional option to use the authentication app instead.
  6. Select app authentication.
  7. Microsoft will send an OTP to your registered phone
  8. Use the OTP(One Time Pin) to log in.

This simple method of accessing apps & services seems far more secure & presents hurdles for would be criminals to overcome.

The app is free to download & only takes a few minutes of your time to setup.Once up & running you enter the convenient world of “password-free” app navigation.
