With the help of MMD, IT organizations can focus on their business while Microsoft manages their modern desktops, Microsoft said on its blog.

The goal, as mentioned on the blog, is “to better the experience for users, while keeping devices secure & up-to-date.” MMD relies on the power of Microsoft 365 & is built on modern devices that meet the tech giant’s specification & run-time quality bar.

We believe that MMD will be an option that allows organizations to fundamentally shift how they think about and manage their IT. Through MMD, customers will be able to move toward a secure, always up-to-date environment with device management by Microsoft. – Bill Karagounis, GM

Microsoft will incorporate analytics to help it monitor, improve, also manage the global MMD device population. The company uses insights & Artificial Intelligence (AI) to determine a device’s readiness for feature updates or to check if a specific app is blocking its ability to update, prompting swift action.

In order to better end-to-end scenarios for customers across the globe, MMD has been implemented with a “with a set of early customers” to provide timely insights & feedback.

To deploy MMD, Microsoft will be working in partnership with Lloyds Banking Group & Seattle Reign FC. Their key strategic partners are Dell, HP, DXC, HCL, Computacenter, & Accenture/Avanade.

MMD has been launched with a small number of customers in the UK & the US. The company announced that it was starting operations in Canada, Australia & New Zealand in early 2019. They also we plan to expand to other countries in the 2nd half of 2019.
