Augmented reality (AR) apps can be a lot of fun if done right. This nifty little app from Google’s Creative Lab can keep you & your friends entertained for hours. The app lets you make simple drawings in AR, then you can share your creation with a short video.

To use the ‘Just a Line’ app, you just draw on your smartphone’s touchscreen with your finger, hit the ‘record’ button & make drawings of anything you like, in real time. The drawings will pop up like magic, superimposed on your actual environment like they’re just floating around. You can get really creative with your videos & your friends will be pleasantly surprised when you send them one.

The app is based on Google’s ARCore platform for building AR apps on Android. ARCore integrates visual content with the real world with your phone’s camera by using motion tracking, an environmental understanding of your phone’s location on flat horizontal surfaces & light estimation to gauge your environment’s lighting conditions.
