Lobster is a user Content marketplace where one can buy, sell & license photo, audio, videos & text that have been posted on social media.
Up until now, Lobster’s functionality was limited to asking users to submit their Content requirements, & then providing the service of helping users find & license the appropriate user-generated Content on social networks.
But now they have added a Dogpile-style search functionality that allows publishers to search for specific keyword-based Content across multiple social networks. You can then use the platform to send a licensing request for that content.
Type in a keyword & it shows you all the available Content on Instragram, Deviantart & Flickr. It also plans to include Content from Twitter, Facebook & Vine soon.
Users can additionally filter the results based on time, location & a distance from that location. Once a user has selected the photos he/she is interested in & put in a request o buy the license for the photos, Lobster handles the task of contacting the Content creators & seeking licensing for it.
Content creators who have posted their Content on social media can likewise set up a deal with Lobster to license their content. As a start, you can earn up to US $2 for an Instragram photo to US $3 for a Flickr image. Content creators stand to keep 75% of the earnings.
The Lobster social media Content marketplace was officially launched in Oct 2014 at TechCrunch’s Disrupt Europe. It was developed by London, UK-based Lobster IT Limited. The startup was founded in April 2013 by Olga Egorsheva, Maria Iontseva & Andrey Dmitriev. Olga is the company’s CEO & Maria is the UX Director. Andey is the QA Director.
