How to turn on the dark mode on Facebook Messenger – e-Why, What & How

How to use dark mode on Facebook Messenger

On March 4, Facebook confirmed that its ‘Dark Mode for Messenger’, announced last October, was opened to more users. With the launch of Messenger 4, Facebook rolled out a secret setting, which turns your screen to dark mode.

Facebook announced the new dark screen on their official blog on March 4Messenger is used by 1.3 billion people monthly, & although the platform split from the main Facebook app in 2015, it’s still the go-to application for private conversations for most Facebook users.

The new setting turns your screen from white to black, which is much easier on the eye in low-light situations. The screen ’pops’ & glare is reduced once this setting is engaged. The Facebook blog suggests that the dark setting will make the app much more user friendly, since it can be used wherever you are or whenever you need it, you simply have to adjust the screen mode according to your environment.

So here’s how to use the dark mode on Facebook Messenger. To enable dark mode all you need to do is tap the crescent moon emoji & voila, the option to turn on the setting pops onto your screen, that’s all there is to it. According to Facebook the setting will be included on the standard settings menu in the near future, but for now only those in the know will be able to use it, unless of course it’s discovered accidentally by an unsuspecting user who simply wants to use the crescent moon emoji.

Speculation is rife amongst Facebook users as to whether or not the setting will be made available for the main Facebook app, but for now, dark mode is available, only for messenger for both IOS & Android

This entertaining method of rollout, will certainly make this useful screen mode popular, after all who doesn’t love a secret.
