Originally an exclusive feature of Snapchat, “Stories” has now been added to other major social media platforms like Instagram & Facebook. In fact, with a much larger user base to draw from, Facebook Stories is reportedly well on the track to beat Snapchat.

The feature which makes use of Facebook’s in-app camera works in a similar way to Snapchat & Instagram Stories, allowing users to overlay filters & lenses over their Content. Your Facebook Stories Content will display for just 24 hours in that section before disappearing.

You can also add location tags to your photo or video.

Here’s a step by step guide to how to use Facebook Stories:

Step 1: Access the in-app camera

You will find the in-app camera icon on your Facebook mobile Application. Tap this icon to access the camera. You can switch between your front & rear facing camera by tapping the flip camera button.

Step 2: Create your video or photo

The next step is to snap a quick photo or record a video. There are 4 modes to record your Content. In the normal mode, hold down the button at the center of your screen to record a 20-seconds video or simply tap it to take a photo. There is also a video mode where you can start recording by simply tapping the record button once.

The Boomerang option allows you to stitch a burst of photos together in order to create a short animation. Finally, there is a ‘live’ video option that broadcasts content to your friends or followers in real time. You can also choose a pre-recorded Content from your phone’s camera-roll to post to your stories.

Step 3: Add lenses & filters

You will notice a range of filters & lenses on the screen, toggle between the filters to embellish your video or photo.

Step 4: Share your story

Once you are satisfied with your story, you can proceed to share it using the arrow icon on your screen. You can choose to send your content directly to “Your Story” or send it to selected friends directly.

How to post links with Facebook Stories

Facebook Stories has a feature targeted specifically at businesses known as Facebook Stories Ad. In this option, you can add clickable links to your story & get your followers to take desired actions. This can be created using your Facebook Ad manager or API. Although you will not be able to select Facebook stories as a standalone placement for your ad, it is included as a placement option when you choose Automatic placement. You will also be able to access insights to see how your ads are performing on Stories.
