If you’ve ever been there before, then you know how annoying forgetting your phone’s password can be. Even though you might want to use a password or pattern that will be hard for someone else to guess, the best thing is to always choose a password is still easy for you to remember in case you forget. However, the good news is that there are certain things you can do if this happens.

Here’s how to unlock a mobile device:

Use Google’s ‘Find My Device’

In the past, Google Find My Device had a feature that allowed you to change your phone password in case you forgot it. Unfortunately, this service is no longer available. However, you can still use Google Find My device to unlock your phone by erasing your device. But for you to do this, you need to know the email address & password to your Google Account. Also, your phone must be connected to the Internet for this to work. The only downside to this is that you will have to erase all the photos & other files on your device if you haven’t backed them up before.

Use Samsung’s ‘Find My Mobile’

Here’s one more way on how to unlock a mobile device, especially if it is a Samsung phone. You can unlock your device remotely using Samsung Find My Device. With the email address & the password associated with your account, you can log into your “Find My Mobile” page on a computer & unlock your device.

Accessing your phone using your Google account

For users of Android version 4.4 or earlier devices, the process of unlocking their devices is a lot easier. After trying the wrong password 5 times, you should see a “forgot password” prompt. Access to your phone should be restored after you log in your Google account in the next page displayed after this prompt.

Factory Data Reset/ Recovery mode for iPhone

If all the other options do not work, one final alternative is to perform a factory reset. Go to your phone’s recovery mode menu to carry out a factory data reset on your phone. However, this option will erase everything on your phone so be sure there is no other viable option before doing this. iPhone users can also erase all the data on a locked phone by using the recovery mode on the device.
