How to transfer files from Android device to PC – e-Why, What & How

For most of who make use of our phones & computers hand-in-hand, there are a lot of times when there is a need to transfer files from your Android device to your PC. In such situations, there are a number of possible solutions you can explore, some of which will involve you downloading an additional program or by simply syncing your Mobile phone & your computers.

Here are some simple solutions you can explore to know how to transfer files from Android to PC.

  1. Transfer files using Bluetooth

Most PCs come with Bluetooth inbuilt into them. Even if yours doesn’t, you can simply make use of an external Bluetooth dongle to send files seamlessly from your Android to your PC. This method is especially useful when you are transferring small files as it might get quite slow for larger files.

Step 1: Go to setting on your computer & look for the “Devices” section. Click on Bluetooth & other devices to switch on your PC’s Bluetooth.

Step 2: Click on the “Add Bluetooth device” option & scan for your Android device. Ensure that your phone’s Bluetooth & visibility options are set on while doing this. Select your device name among the list of devices & pair.

Step 3: Once a connection has been established, go to the system tray located on the bottom right corner of your PC screen.  Right click on the Bluetooth icon & select the receive file option.

Step 4: On your Android device, search for the file you wish to transfer & share via Bluetooth to your PC.

You will receive a notification on your PC once the transfer is completed asking you to save the received file. Select your preferred destination then click on ‘finish’.

  1. Transfer files using apps

Another way you can send files from your Android phone to your PC is by using apps. There are a number of apps you can use for this but the most popular ones include AirDroid & Pushbullet. These apps allow you to tether your Android device with your computer over a Wi-Fi network thus making it possible to transfer files quite easily.

To use AirDroid to transfer files simply following these steps:

Step 1: Install AirDroid from Playstore & open the app. The app will request your permission to use some features on your device which you should allow. Also, you should check to ensure that the “files” option on the App is set to on.

Step 2: Go to the AirDroid Online page to download the desktop client for your computer

Step 3: Sign in & add your details. Browse your phone for the file you want to send & select AirDroid when you are prompted to choose how you want to share.

You can also send files from your PC to your phone by simply dragging & dropping the file from your computer into the installed AirDroid client. Pushbullet has similar features as AirDroid & can be used for sharing files to & from your device as well. 

  1. Transfer files using Windows folder sharing option

Another way you can share files from your phone to your computer is by using a dedicated sharing folder on your computer’s local network or by connecting your PC to your phone’s WiFi network. However, this method requires you to download ES File Explorer or any other type of file manager with similar functions.

Step 1: Open ES File Explorer on your phone & turn on the ‘View on PC’ feature. You should find this by clicking on the menu button, expanding the network tab & selecting ‘Remote Manager’.

Step 2: Tap on “Turn on”an FTP address will be displayed which you should copy into your web browser on your computer or your file manager.

Step 3:  You should be able to see & assess the folder structure of your phone & find the file you want to transfer to your PC. Ensure that your phone is either connected to your computer local area network or your computer is connected to your Phone’s WiFi network when you do this.

4.Transfer files by Using the Cloud

Another way to get files from your phone to your PC easily is to make use of Cloud services like Google Drive or Dropbox which automatically syncs storage across your PC & phone allowing you to access your file on either device.  Accessing files saved on your email from your PC also works similarly, too.

5. By using cable

Finally, when all else fails, you can simply revert to traditional USB cable to connect your Android device to your PC & move all the files you want seamlessly. While this might not be as sleek as connecting over WiFi or using the apps described above, it is just as effective.
