Graava is a newly launched camera that combines artificial intelligence (AI), built-in sensors & a smartphone app to provide auto editing functionality for the captured video footage.

There’s obviously no dearth of video editing software & apps, but none of the big camera makers have a camera that is part of the editing process.

This is where graava comes into the picture. You can simply tell the app on your smartphone what kind of editing you want done (summarize 3 hours of video in a 2-minute clip), & drop the camera into its charging dock. The camera then goes to work once it detects that it has power. It will activate Wi Fi connectivity & automatically synchronize & edit the video.

The graava AI algorithms & the sensor data recorded by the camera automatically pick the best scenes from the raw video footage. You get a notification when the clip is available & ready to share.

As for the specs, the graava cameras runs on an ARM Dual core processor, & has HD 1080p 30 fps / 720p 60 fps video resolution with hyperlapse video of 4K, 1080p & 720p, & photo resolution of 8MP. It has a 130º wide-angle lens, wireless charging built-in, & a rechargeable Lithium-ion 1100mAh, 3,7V battery with an estimated time 3 hours on video 1080p mode with Wi Fi off.

It is water resistant & also has a whole bunch of sensors for everything from GPS to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Accelerometer, Gyro sensor, light sensor, image sensor, two microphones, a speaker, & an optional heart rate sensor.

If you’re wondering what you need a heart rate sensor for in a camera, that’s because it makes use of the data to support auto-edition. The camera can also take heartbeat data to support auto-edition. Initially, it will be able to take heartbeat data from devices such as Android Gear & Apple Watch equipped with heartbeat sensors.

You can also use the gaava camera as a home or baby monitor while it’s charging or if you just want it leave it at home. The app on your smartphone will be able to see & interact what the camera sees in real-time from anywhere.

If you pre-order it now before Sept 1, you can save $150 on the retail price of $399 & get a Graava camera for $249.

The graava camera was developed by Sunnyvale, CA-based Graava, Inc. The company was founded in June 2014 by Marcelo Do Rio, Marcio Saito & Bruno Gregory, & has raised $750,000 in seed funding from PTI Ventures.
