New addition to Google Tasks raises its profile

Google Tasks updates were released some 24 hours ago. The app which was designed to help users easily create lists & make notes of their “to-dos” will be able to raise its profile as an all-one G-Suite destination for keeping track of your important tasks with these additions.

Google Tasks updates

Recall that last year, Google Tasks got a more prominent placement after Google’s redesign of Gmail’s UI.  With the redesign, Tasks was now more easily accessible on the right hand panel along with the other add-ons on Gmail, Google Docs, Google calendar & other G-suit apps. That change is now being followed by 3 new updates that will make Tasks even more prominent & more useful for users.

With these updates, users will be able to bring all their important reminders from Google assistant, Calendar, Gmail & so on under the same umbrella. The update also includes some new features for more seamless management.

Users will now be able to set dates & time for each task they create on Google Tasks & will be able to receive notifications on their device. Another feature that was added is the ability to set tasks to repeat. Finally, you will also be able to import your reminders from other Google apps into Tasks for more seamless management.  By doing this, Google hopes to not only help users keep track of their tasks but also to be able to monitor the deadlines associated with each one.

Now when you create a new task, you will be able to add the due date & time for the task. You can also edit an existing task and update it with dates & time associated with it. Also, you can now set a task to repeat itself which means you don’t have to create the same task over again when next it will be coming up on your schedule.

In addition to these, now when you open Google Tasks on your computer or on the Mobile app, you will be asked if you want to copy your existing reminders to Task. If you wish to do this, you will be presented with a list of your existing tasks & you can choose the ones you want to add reminders to. You can also choose to have the reminders deleted once they are copied or leave them in your inbox, calendar or anywhere else they were before. The copied reminders will carry all the details such as the date, time, title & every other detail they had before over into Task.

However, the new update isn’t a complete synchronization of Task with your other platforms which means new reminders set elsewhere will have to be manually copied this same way if you want them to appear in Task.  However, when you set date & time reminders on your tasks, they will now appear on your Google calendar as long as you have the feature enabled. Also, if you have switched on notifications on the Mobile app, you will get notifications about the task directly to your device when the due date or time you have set expires.
