Google launches Cloud gaming service ‘Stadia’ – News

Google took the wraps off its Cloud based gaming service ‘Stadia’ today. The latter will bring console-quality games to Chrome, Android, & TV.

The Google Stadia gaming platform comes with a pad is like a DualShock controller complete with a pair of twin sticks, a D-pad, & face + shoulder buttons. One feature different from the rest –  the home button featuring the new Stadia logo. It also sports a sharing button & a Google Assistant button, letting you use the controller’s built-in mic to talk to Assistant for accessing in-game hints if you get stuck. The Stadia controller will connect directly to the data center, presumably eliminating lag issues.

The Google Stadia gaming platform itself consists of a custom 2.7GHz hyperthreaded x86 CPUs, while Google also worked with AMD on a custom GPU, which features 56 compute units. There is 16 GB of combined VRAM & system RAM, with performance rated at 10.7 Teraflops of power.

Stadia is powered by Linux, & supports the Vulkan graphics API & the Google partnered with Unreal to fully support the Stadia platform.

Playing on Stadia, YouTubers can press “Play now” at the end of a video, & be brought into the game within 5 seconds. The service provides “instant access” via button or link, too.

At launch, Stadia is available on desktops, laptops, TV, Tablets, & smartphones. Seamless switching will allow users to move between all devices. Also, Stadia will support cross-platform play for developers & gamers on other consoles.
