‘Freezetab’ is free alternative to Chrome bookmarks – #Startup

The Google Chrome browser’s bookmark feature is convenient & easy to use but if falls woefully short when you compare it with ‘freezetab’. This Chrome extension substitutes tab groups for Chrome’s folders providing users with multiple ways of sorting & searching, & letting pick & choose which groups of tabs to turn into bookmarks.

Freezetab is the brainchild of US-based developer Keith Brooks who decided to build the extension out of the frustration he often experienced with Chrome’s own bookmark management function. He experimented with a number of available tab & bookmark managers, which brought no joy.

The extension substitutes Chrome’s bookmark folders for a concept termed tab groups. Chrome forces you to keep your bookmarks in folders which it asks you to name. This most often results in you keeping just about all your bookmarks in a single folder which becomes cumbersome to navigate through & nearly impossible to manage.

Freezetab lets you save groups of tabs & takes care of creating the groups for you, so you don’t need to plan or make decisions about naming. It then lets you access & sort your bookmarks in a number of useful ways.

Tabs can be organized & viewed based on domain names, or based on an interactive calendar, in alphabetical order (A-Z & Z-A), in chronological order, etc.

Freezetab’s search feature lets you start searching as soon as you start typing & you can search based on title, title of tab groups & Website name. When you save tabs you can use the quick save feature to save all your tabs & immediately close them, or close everything to the left of the current tab, save specific tabs…

Another interesting feature can be used for sharing bookmarks through an export feature that can come in handy for publishing or sharing with friends.

You can get the freezetab Chrome extension for free from the Chrome Web store here
