‘Librem One’ offers privacy-first, end-to-end encryption for Online services

end to end encryption services

Nowadays, Online privacy is a major concern, what with fresh data-leak stories surfacing regularly.

Librem One, a collection of secure apps floated by the privacy-first company Purism, may be exactly what you need to defeat the nefarious privacy threats currently in circulation.

The Librem One app collection is all open source, encrypted, & focused on peer-to-peer communications, which are truly the most vulnerable of all online services.

The following apps are included in the package:

  1. Librem Chat — Based on Matrix (mobile version Riot), the Librem One Chat offers end-to-end encryption for VoIP, text & video communication. The pivoting factor for this service is that it’s not service specific, in other words, it allows you to inter-communicate between other services, such as Gmail, Yahoo or iCloud.
  2. Librem Mail — Uses K-9 Mail & OpenKeychain, to provide an ultra-secure, encrypted email service, while affording users the opportunity to cross-communicate with any service using OpenPGP.
  3. Librem Tunnel — VPN service, which offers secure, anonymous, encrypted browsing, by protecting & obscuring your identity Online. The service uses OpenVPN for Andriod & Private Internet Access for IOS.
  4. Librem Social — An open source social media offering based on Mastodon, which respects personal data & operates on an encrypted tier.

Purism promises to protect your personal data, run ad free Content & encrypt all elements to obviate hackers. All these features are available on Purism’s crowdfunded laptops & smartphones.

However, they’ve also released all apps for download via the Apple & Google App Stores(except their mail offering for IOS). Since they won’t be earning by selling your data or via advertising space or sales, the Librem One suite of tools are not all free to use. Their mail & chat services are free, but if you’d like the complete set, their charge is $7.99/month, for a single user, while 5 users(a family), will need to fork up $14.99/month.

Purism plans to add a host of additional services with features like file storage, file backup & phone services in the pipeline. To develop these services, they intend to crowdfund for finance.

So, if you take your privacy seriously, & who doesn’t, check out the Librem One package.
