Coding for young learners, specifically girls, made easier with ‘vidcode’

learning coding

Tired of most of these generic learn to code programs that are flooding the tech world? ‘Vidcode’ could be just the place where you learn coding with a degree of passion. It’s a program that teaches young learners, especially girls, how to code + be able to share it with friends.

According to the developers behind vidcode, this program comes with an aura of simplicity that will enable your students to start creating a project right away. Imagine being able to create Instagram-style filters, memes & music videos right from code.

Co-founder Alexandria Diracles has said elsewhere:

Code is a democratic medium for girls to flex their creative muscles while learning to code. I envision it as a web app geared towards pre-college-age girls. Using the app, they’d learn to code Instagram-style videos, filters and all, that they could share with their friends.I want to get girls to the point at which they’re producing apps and tech tools, instead of only consuming them. I learned to code just recently – while in grad school – and I don’t want girls growing up today to wait so long to see how fun coding is.

Vidcode has tutorials which are arranged in a manner that favors both the teacher & the learner, irrespective of their backgrounds. Students will be able to learn JavaScript at their own pace, i.e. from beginner to advanced JavaScript, in a stress-free environment.

With vidcode, your work as a teacher will be quite easy & simple. The startup has stipulated a step by step curriculum, teacher training courses & teacher tools to ensure the process is smooth. With these tools, vidcode enables you not only teach your students but also grade them accordingly. And the catch? You don’t even need to have any programming experience.

Also, vidcode has partnered with Snapchat & has included a feature that allows you to code your Snapchat filters. To make it even more fun & motivating, you could have your filters featured on Snapchat.

Signing up with vidcode is free, although there are paid plans, too.  Alexandria Diracles, a photographer, & Melissa Halfon, a software engineer, are the startup’s co-founders. Vidcode is located in California, USA.
