Apple’s new privacy portal – Quick news

Apple privacy portal

Apple announced a slew of privacy upgrades on Wednesday, including a privacy portal that will help Apple device users to see what kind of data the company has kept on them.

The Apple privacy portal, it seems, was already tested in the European Union in May this year, following the introduction there of the General Data Protection Legislation (GDPR). The information collected on Apple users include data such as calendar entries, photos, health info, documents, App Store purchases, etc.

On the privacy portal, the company has said this data could be an iMessage sent to a friend, or a FaceTime call. But all of a user’s data was encrypted, & the same was true for personal information that lives on an Apple device. For example, the data used to identify you for Touch ID & Face ID is converted into mathematical representations that are encrypted & protected by the Secure Enclave on your device, where they cannot be accessed by iOS or apps. It isn’t stored on Apple servers or backed up to iCloud.

On the Apple privacy portal, Apple users are shown various ways of securing their personal data or info, how to secure their devices & how to manage their Apple ID. For more on this, click here.
