And the verdict’s out. In the raging battle for smart speakers in use, Amazon Echo has come out tops. The findings of a smart speaker user survey also adds another feather in Amazon’s virtual cap by making it the most popular smart speaker in US homes. The poll puts Google Home in the 2nd place, with Apple, too, securing its position in the top 3.

The findings have been published by Strategy Analytics in its report titled ‘Smart Speaker User Survey – US Results‘.

Amazon Echo accounts for 23% of all speakers in use in the US, thus, crowning it the most popular smart speaker family. Together with all its models, Amazon accounts for 63% smart speakers in use, while Google & Apple stand at 17% & 4% respectively.

Further cementing Amazon’s resilient popularity, the consumer poll found that 88% of smart speaker homes owned at least 1 Amazon smart speaker. While Google smart speaker too made its way into 31% consumer households. Bottomline being, that people are open to using different voice assistant platforms.

Moreover, with 54% opting for either Amazon, Google or Apple as their next smart speaker brand, nearly half of the popular market segment is left open to competitors. While Bose, Samsung & Sonos emerged as desired substitutes to the “big 3”.

The Online poll quizzed 1011 smart speaker consumers in the US in July/August 2018.

David Watkins, Director, Smart Speakers at Strategy Analytics said,

Amazon & Google may dominate today’s market, but this will not always be the case. Many consumers are ready to consider alternative brands, assuming they meet the high expectations identified in this study, including high quality audio, superior design & device compatibility.

Multiple ownership of smart speakers is passé as they have smartly elbowed their way to the US lifestyle as 58% consumers owned 2 or more smart speakers at home. In addition, 62% have a smart speaker in the family room, 41% in a bedroom & 39% in the kitchen.

Loo & behold, smart speakers have sneaked into restrooms, too, with 12% users flaunting them in their bathrooms.
