‘Alively’ lets you share moments via ‘live’ streaming to targeted audience

live streaming

Big social media companies like Twitter, YouTube & Facebook have been busy giving you the ability to ‘live stream’. ‘Alively’ has recently launched its own service to take on this competition, but with a twist – they make it easy to ‘live’ stream or to send pre-recorded video from your smartphone & to a targeted audience.

Alively isn’t just any new kid in town that’s stepped into the fray to take on the big boys. The California Bay Area, USA-based startup is led by its founder Vadim Lavrusik, who was previously project manager on Facebook Live.  But alively parts ways from the Facebook Live app, in the sense that your audience won’t be grappling with ‘likes’ or hearts. Alively users can comment on your videos while you’re streaming, in fact.

At the moment, alively is a iOS-only app. To get started you download the app from Apple’s App Store here, & then you sign up using your phone number & alively will send you an activation code via a text message. You then choose a username, password & profile photo & choose which people on your contact list you want to share stuff with, including the ability to create groups.

The videos you share in alively are stored in the Cloud so you can offload them from your phone’s local storage, & they only get shared with people you explicitly authorize to view them regardless of whether they’re alively users or not. You need to choose an audience every time you decide to share a video & you can stream live or record & share your video later.

If your audience consists of users already on alively, it will receive your video directly in the app. If it does not have the app, it will get a link with a video caption via SMS. Your target audience will be able to play the video simply by tapping on the link, but unlike alively users, it will miss out on the comment stream. The video Content is high quality & isn’t limited in length & you’ll be able to see which friends are watching or commenting while you’re sharing live.
