Yahoo!’s “silent” video texting mobile app Livetext is here

Will this new app by Yahoo! prove competition to others such as Meerkat, Periscope, & some such? The Internet company has unveiled a live video texting mobile app to boost the company’s presence in the mobile sector.

The Yahoo! Livetext app allows users to connect by streaming video, & herein lies the difference Yahoo Livetextbetween it & the others, is that this streaming is only a one-on-one. Somewhat like Apple’s FaceTime or Facebook’s Video Chat. Like Snapchat, there’s also no record of the videos or texts after they are published. Also, another difference between Livetext & competitors is that instead of using audio, the app has a text feature that appears on top of the ‘live’ video. “Silent” types.

Yahoo’s Senior Director, Product Management, Arjun Sethi explained on the Yahoo Tumblr blog:
….a new way to communicate that blends the immediacy, simplicity and ease of texting with the expressiveness of video, without the audio. We see video as a way to make your conversations more authentic, and we see text as a way to connect that’s quick and non-intrusive.

Yahoo Livetext puts your words and your friend’s real-time reactions at the center of your conversation. Whether you’re watching Avicii DJ at the Creamfields Festival, at Venice Beach or taking in the view from the Eiffel Tower, you can spontaneously connect with the people you care about and invite them to experience moments with you. Your friend’s goofy look or giant smile, even her eye roll or silent sigh, suddenly become a part of your conversation. Simple conversations are transformed into vivid, authentic and memorable experiences that you can share anytime.

Yahoo! Livetext is available for both iOS & Android phones.
