Yahoo releases video texting mobile app on iTunes

Yahoo has released the next version of its Yahoo Messenger mobile application, available under the name “Yahoo Livetext – Video Messenger” in the Hong Kong iTunes App Store.

We were 1st told of it in a report by TechCrunch. The app introduces a different form of video texting which combines traditional text messages with video that doesn’t include an audio feed.

Livetext transforms simple conversations into a fun experience. Yahoo claims it to be an entirely new way to stay in touch with friends. For example, livetext your friends no matter where you are — whether you’re hanging out with other friends, at a ballgame, in a club, or commuting on a train — & share a goofy face or a glimpse of the world around you.

Key features:

  • Free forever. Your friends & you can live video text as much as you want. Livetext uses your Net connection.
  • One on One. Not for group messaging.
  • Text & live video: Both at the same time.
  • Add friends: Use their Livetext ID or your address book contacts to connect with friends.
