With ‘Smaller’ for OS X your Websites load faster – #Startups

This powerful compressor makes your HTML, CSS & JavaScript code load faster & can combine several files into 1. It’s easy to configure & to use & works on OS X 10.7+.

To use it, just drop files or drop a folder & Smaller intelligently adds all of the HTML/CSS/JS files under it to the minify queue. Use ⌘ click to select multiple files, then right click & choose “combine” to combine several files into 1. PHP/PHTML compression support is also available & is currently in beta.

Files can also be dropped directly onto the Dock icon & Smaller will take care of everything for you. The app is Yosemite ready & requires Mac OS X version 10.7 or later, though an older version is also available for OS X 10.6. You need to install the Apple version of the Java Virtual Machine & not the one from Oracle.

The application can be downloaded from the product Webpage & comes with a 30-day free trial. An individual license has a 1-time cost of US$ 20 & is valid for a single user in up to 3 Macs. There are other ‘paid’ licences available.

A possible alternative to Left is CodeKit, which is also a GUI-based build environment which optimizes & speeds up website load times.

Smaller is developed by Tianjin, China-based 25.io Inc. The company also makes other apps for the Mac: ‘Mou’ is markdown editor for developers featuring live preview, sync, scroll, autosave, PDF export… & ‘Toau’ is used for converting plaintext to an audio file.
