Here’s an Internet of Things (IoT) ideas global contest by wireless company Verizon.

The ‘Powerful Answers Award’ is positioned as a multi-million dollar challenge for entrepreneurs, companies and innovators worldwide to provide innovative solutions in three categories including IoT, the other two being Transportation and Emergency Response.

Verizon is currently accepting submissions for the content. Participants have a chance to win up to US $1M in prizes, just for submitting an idea.

The 1st Prize per category is US $1 million, the 2nd is US $500,000 per category and the 3rd Prize is US $250,000, 2 per category.

The IoT contest is based around the thought –  how can the use of technology behind the IoT enable more intelligent actions on the largest possible scale and with the greatest possible impact?

Those submitting ideas for the IoT contest need to do so for ‘Connected Health’, ‘Smart Cities’ and ‘Smart Agriculture’.

For the ‘Connected Health’ category, ideas should be around – How can digital and mobile technology be specifically leveraged to provide unique solutions such as tele-health, remote care, disease and lifestyle management, chronic care and help care-givers quickly and efficiently access data to enable the fastest, most targeted solutions?

For ‘Smart Cities’, participants need to address the question – How can technology advance cities’ operations and management so they can service ever growing populations as efficiently as possible?

For the ‘Smart Agriculture’, category, those submitting ideas must keep in mind –  How can technology play a role in advancing farms’ yields while minimising the use of resources required such as water and fertilizers?

Open to individuals of 18 years of age and above, the initial ‘Concept Submission Round’ requires entrants to create an account, submit a description of their initial concept submission via the form provided on the Contest Website, among other conditions. Entrants can submit their Concept Submission from 9:00 a.m. United States Pacific Daylight Time on March 26, 2015 through 11:59 p.m. United States Pacific Daylight Time on June 18, 2015.

Those selected for the next round – the ‘Full Proposal Round’, will be required to log into Contest Website and follow the instructions to complete and submit Entrant’s full proposal submission, which must be based on the Concept Submission by July 23, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

For Round 3 – the Finalist Round, the top 12 ‘Full Proposal Submissions’ in each of the Core Focus Categories will be selected by the Judges to advance to Round 3 of the Contest. Contest Finalists will be notified on or about August 20, 2015. Contest Finalists will then be invited to present the Full Proposal Submission in an in-person presentation before a panel of judges. The specific dates and locations of the Final Proposal will be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion and will be posted on the Contest Website, said Verizon.
