Track changes in Terms Of Service of Sites

It is mandatory for every Site to publish its Privacy Policy as well as Terms of Use. But how many of us really bother to check if the terms have changed.

This is the painpoint that TOSBack.org seeks to address. Terms of service are often too long to read, but it’s important to understand what’s in them. Your rights Online depend on them. A service by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EEF), Internet Society & TOS, DR, the terms of service tracker alerts you when terms of a Site are updated. Founded in 1999, the EEF is a well-known nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world. The TOS, DR “Terms of Service; Didn’t Read” (short: ToS;DR) is a young project started in June 2012.

The project is currently in Beta. An announcement on the Site explains: Every day, we check the Terms and Policies of many online services to see if any of them have changed. The project is currently in beta as we are working on some improvements to ensure greater reliability and coverage. For now, please double check any results with the website operator before relying on them for important legal or journalistic purposes. More crawl data (including the full html pages) is available at tosback.eff.org (same warning applies).

On the TOSBack.org Website, you can see the many Sites & services that have changed their Terms of Service. The changes per se may be read over at Github.
