This new chat app for your iPhone claims to be a unique messaging platform in the sense it provides a new type of secure communication where you can chat with anyone & that person will never be able to prove that the communication has actually taken place.
Tex lets you adopt a fake name, so that the person you’re chatting with can’t prove who you are once they’ve read the message & in a similar way as happens in Vine videos, the messages disappears. You are even informed if the person attempts to take a screenshot where a message may appear.
The app also contains the kind of standard features you’d expect from a modern chat app, like end-to-end encryption, private & public groups, support for rich media messages: text, photos & videos. It’s got some unusual additional features that enhance privacy & security in keeping with its unique focus. For example, in private groups you only get to see a user’s fake name so that no one will be able to demonstrate who is who in the group & if you’re not interested in keeping a particular phone number in your address book you can register the number in Tex & dial it at any time.
When you want to tell each other a secret, about something that might be bothering you & you need to confide in someone, you certainly don’t want that person to have that conversation registered on their phone, where they can show anyone or re-share (i.e. gossip). So Tex gives you the kind of privacy you have when you’re talking face to face with another person, just the 2 of you know who you are & what you’re saying to each other & when the conversation is over, it just disappears.
The company behind Tex is Polka Lab, a digital agency based in Asuncion, Paraguay & in Miami, Florida, USA, that has already shown a proclivity for building interesting mobile apps. Its CEO is Alex Heikel, who in a recent statement explained that his company was interested in providing a way for regular users to maintain secure conversations with friends & family.
Tex is a free app & requires iOS 8.0 or later version.
