Take temporary screenshots & share them with ‘Zapsnap’ – #Startup

With this MacOS app you can take a screenshot on your Mac using your browser, then using a peer to peer torrent network, share it with your friends or collaborators. After you shut down your browser tab the capture is no longer available unless other peers are sharing it as well.

Have you ever wanted to quickly capture a screen from your browser & share it without having to send an email or do other convoluted messaging shenanigans? Sometimes you simply don’t do it to avoid having to go through the hassle & you lose an opportunity to share a good idea.

Enter Zapsnap, a free, open source app which relies on peers being available Online to view & share your capture. The files are temporary, so no resources are wasted on your computer storing them. If you’re worried about keeping track of images you can forget about them when all peer browsers are closed.

The app was developed by Zagreb, Croatia-based shop Two Bucks. It consists of 2 experienced developers, Dino Trojak & Hrvoje Simic. You can track progress on the project & check out source code on their GitHub page here.

Zapsnap uses WebTorrent for browser support, so your browser choices are limited to Chrome, Firefox & Opera. Webtorrent is a streaming torrent client for browsers & the desktop, with support for Mac, Windows & Linux, although Zapsnap currently only supports Mac. The makers are working on versions for the other 2 OSs.

In fact, WebTorrent is a vibrant project in its own right & supports streaming of any kind of content, including video, music, audiobooks, & supports instant viewing of content so you don’t have to wait until a file finishes downloading before you can start viewing.
