Microsoft recently launched a coding competition aimed at students between 9 & 18 years. ‘Break into Code!’ contest allows participants a shot at winning a total of US $12,000 by way of cash prizes. This is the 1st in a series of Microsoft Imagine for students.

The announcement, put up on the Microsoft Imagine Cup blog said: You know those games and apps you use on your phone every day? Somebody made those – and it could be somebody like you! With free software and tutorials from Microsoft Imagine, a Microsoft YouthSpark program, students ages 9-18 worldwide can learn to code their first game in about an hour and then dive deeper to personalize it, remix it, change it up however they want.

The Microsoft Image program is a platform that strives to give students the opportunity to learn coding & become a technology creator, to make games & apps that they can then can share with friends.

Here’s what you need to enter the Break Into Code! challenge:

  • Use any device with a browser & Internet connection to register & participate
  • Follow a tutorial to create a working video game using TouchDevelop
  • Modify the game to make it your own & submit it to the contest before June 7, 2015

Even if students do not have any previous coding experience, it does not stop them from entering this program. With Break Into Code!, they have a coding experience that is within reach.
