Another iOS app to block ads – the tribe grows – New app

In real life, bears are good at scaring off people. BlockBear is a smartphone app that “scares” off Online ads. It is a nifty adblocker for thead blockers iPhone & iPad running the Safari browser. By blocking those ads, it claims, your Websites can load 3-5 times faster. Invasive Online tracking is another pet peeve of many. BlockBear claims to keep invaders of privacy at bay, too, with its strong bear paws.

While adblockers on desktops are not new, allowing mobile users to block ads is increasingly the way of the future.

Of course, ad blocking has turned into a contentious issue these days. Blocking ads, in the view of many Online publishers, is them being targeted unfairly. Some reports suggest that ad blockers cost publishers about US $22 billion in revenue a year. The trouble started brewing recently when Apple introduced ad blocking software on its new operating system,  iOS 9. Not to mention that on September 18, Marco Arment, developer of Peace, the ad blocker available at the Apple App store for US $3, had a change of heart & announced that he was going to refund those who had already bought his product. In his blog, Arment said, “Ad blockers come with an important asterisk: while they do benefit a ton of people in major ways, they also hurt some, including many who don’t deserve the hit.”

Typically, all ads were being put on the chopping block by ad blockers. Experts studying the issue, like David Carroll, Associate Professor of Media Design at the Parsons School of Design, NY, has reportedly said elsewhere that because of the popularity of adblockers, the dynamics of advertising on the Web had come in for lengthy scrutiny.

Supporters of BlockBear have nothing but praise for its strength, however. The Canadian company which developed the product believes that privacy & controls for the user is paramount. BlockBear has a feature which allows users to create a whitelist of their favorite Websites. So, when you add a Website to your whitelist, nothing is blocked from that Site.
