Institutions & 3rd party services on the Web claim to make our lives easier at the cost of letting them handle & commercially exploit of all our data. As the creators of Status proclaim , it doesn’t have to be that way. Status takes advantage of the Ethereum Network & the public blockchain to get rid of intermediaries & to open up a host of opportunities for participants in the next generation Web.
The fragmented system of identities & passwords that makes up the current Internet is on its last leg, according to the makers of Status. Far too much of people’s personal data has been placed in the hands of gigantic tech companies.
Status claims that it is “a mobile OS built for Ethereum…..your gateway to the decentralized Web”, making use of the public blockchain’s decentralized database of assets, transactions & smart contracts, in much the same way as the bitcoin cryptocurrency does. This is done across a “globally connected peer-to-peer network.”
The Internet, finance & law, are set to be fundamentally changed through this technology, which is rapidly gaining in acceptance worldwide. If this comes to fruition, 3rd party trusted services will be a thing of the past.
Much like a browser in the current Web, which is a gateway to Websites & institutions, Status provides a gateway into decentralized apps & institutions. It’s a community, governed by its users, giving access to a world “free from controlling interests & censorship.”
Status replaces many current apps with a number of alternate decentralized apps based on Ethereum. Your wallet & bank are replaced & joined with a messenger & combined into an open portal to the next gen Web.
The apps can be used from your mobile device, which becomes a light node on the Ethereum network, so you can access Ethereum from anywhere.

- Etherisc – Create unstoppable companies & organizations, & value without borders.
- Ujo – A decentralized insurance platform. Buy a policy on the go, & be paid claims automatically. Ujo is a home for artists. Create & control your creative content, &share it with the world.
You can also take advantage of the Discover feature, which lets you discover other Status users & Dapps, like Moments, a censorship-resistant decentralized microblogging tool, or Etherplay: skill-based Online multiplayer games.
