Developing an app or a Website is a long process involving several lines of code & ensuring that bugs don’t creep their way in. In development, while coding takes the bulk of the time, the design work is equally important. But design work can often be an impediment to speedy app development.
This is where ‘Supernova’ comes into the picture. Lending a hand to developers & designers alike, the application allows 1 to do what he/she does best – a designer can focus on only the design aspects of an app, whereas a developer can focus on coding without bothering about design. Unlike the ‘Sketch’ app that uses layers, Supernova does not import the same. In fact, layers are turned into different building blocks for applications such as images & labels. There is a host of features of Supernova that may excite the interest of many developers.
First, ‘Starlight’ is the big highlight of SuperNova. Creating components that help in creating the perfect layout isn’t an easy proposition. Cutting corners by ignoring layouts is akin to an application committing harakiri as under-optimized layouts will drastically affect the responsiveness of the application. What Starlight aims to do is automate all the mundane & time-consuming aspects of creating layouts. This includes features like positioning information, styles & margins.
Second, the test function is a great way to improve the app delivery time as the interactive mode allows 1 to preview the app in any device setting. This way a developer/designer can see the behavior of the application in a chosen environment within the studio itself. The benefit of this feature is that it allows 1 to tinker with various designs & run simulations for the same. Thus, it allows the user to have an unfettered creative experience.
Third, application development without animation is like an ocean without fish. Supernova has this covered as well. Its state of the art animation engine converts the design of your choice into native code. Supernova gives the user the flexibility to use designs that are done by hand or with a set of templates. With the preview option, 1 is able to see how the animations interact as well.
Fourth, navigation can get a little difficult when the application has multiple features. Supernova has the provision for a visual navigator that provides ease of mapping for various screens. This avoids confusion & in the process saves time. Lastly, the export feature is the grand finale that allows easy transition from the studio to the live environment of iOS & Android. There is news that this shall extend to React Native very soon.
Supernova Studios is a company that is based in Prague in the Czech Republic. It was jointly founded by Jiri Trecak & Oskar Koristka. The team also has 2 experienced iOS & Andriod gurus who bring invaluable input into the platform development process. As of now, the app is in beta, meaning that it’s still rough around the edges & would still need some work before it can reach its final form. The good news is that it’s free at the moment allowing anyone a “free trial period” of sorts. This would allow developers/designers to test the waters without shelling out any cash.
