‘Spext’ converts audio to text blazingly fast – #Startups

If you have a podcast or YouTube channel then you’re well aware that your followers appreciate text transcripts to go along with that audio & video. Spext is a service that will automatically convert audio to text with a claimed high accuracy rate & comes with an editor which will keep the audio & text synced so that you can easily finish the job manually.

According to Anup Gosavi, leader of the Bangalore, India-based startup that’s developing Spext, he got the idea for the product as a result of his reliance on podcasts for learning from experts. He found that listening to people talk about a subject was nowhere near as fast as skimming through text, so he thought he’d do something about it.

The tool he developed to solve his particular problem blossomed into Spext, which he decided to spliff up & make widely available. The service relies on IBM Watson & Google technologies as well as the startup’s own deep learning models for spotting errors, correction & punctuation.

Currently it supports English only, & works on Chrome & Safari desktop browsers. Users simply need to upload an audio or video file through Dropbox or by sending Spext a link.

Spext has a text editor that is synced to the audio & helps the user achieve 100% accuracy by facilitating his cleanup work. When you’re done you can export the text in doc or rst format. This way you can have your own repository of audio & text transcripts that you can share with your social media followers or Podcast subscribers.

You can try Spext for free for up to 4 files & 4 minutes each file. The pricing comes in 2 flavors: a basic & a premium package.
