What really is Snap Kit & how to use it? – e-Why, What & How

Social media can be used as a marketing tool by a lot of companies to the advantage of both parties involved. Previously Snapchat had a very limited slice of the pie due to the type of content they deal with. The Snapchat team, however, seems to have found a workaround. They have brought about APIs that will allow developers to use some of Snapchat’s features on their apps. They have named this new development Snap Kit.

Snap Kit is mainly divided into 4 – Creative Kit, Login Kit, Bitmoji Kit, Story Kit. With the Creative Kit, developers are able to integrate original ideas for filters, stickers & links with the Snap Chat Camera. Additionally, highlights from each individual app, say for example, a game’s high score could also be brought into Snapchat & shared with friends. Consequently, this could serve as a marketing strategy for developers trying to push forward their new creations.

The Login Kit is an easier way for users of any new app to log in. The concept is similar to how users of Instagram can log in using their Facebook accounts. The days of having to remember 10 or more usernames & passwords seem to be over. They can even have their Bitmoji avatar tag along.

Bitmojis are extremely personalized as they imitate a person’s facial features. Consequently, they can be used as a means to better express one’s self. The Bitmoji Kit allows Bitmojis to be used on any other app. The developers just have to add that feature through Snap kit.

Finally, there is the Story Kit. This feature allows app developers to share Snapchat stories on their own platform. Additionally, a user is at liberty to search for stories using various Criteria such as location & view them from their app. This module is however still in the beta version.

Also embedded on Snap Kit are some privacy & security features that should set an avenue for people to express themselves. According to Jacob Andreou who is Snap’s VP of products Snap Kit is meant to help the 2018 growth goals for the company. This is because the growth rate for the company had been sinking for a while.

Snap Kit is free to use although the company will vet the various apps before allowing their integration.
