Popular Sites offering music for your next video project – e-Why, What & How

With smartphones & Tablets being as popular as they are, a camera or video recorder is always at hand. This fact has seen an explosion of personal & business videos made by folks who have no experience in the field. Generally, these videos are posted to YouTube, Facebook, Vemo, or any one of a number of other social Sites.

Despite the ease of capture, most devices do not come with video editing capability – if you want your footage to look professional you need to edit it in an app dedicated to creating a ‘movie’ from your stills & video clips.  And what about music for videos? Both Android & Apple devices offer a plethora of video makers on their respective app stores, & most offer a variety of editing tools, such as voice-over, text-overlay, title-stills, transitions & a selection of free music compositions for your work.

The addition of sound track to create a particular ambience which you might have in mind is essential to the creative process. However, the music you add to your videos cannot be taken from your library of iTunes purchases, or songs you’ve downloaded from the Net. The music clips are licensed, so you need to select music made specifically for the purpose that has a compliant license… such as the Creative Commons license (usually with artist attribution as a pre-requisite) or Public Domain license (free to use in any manner you choose, without attribution).

To make your selective process easier, we’ve put together a few suggestions of Sites on the Net, or on the various app stores that have a choice of music for your use, which has the correct license.

Bending Spoons offers 2 IoS apps, both of which come with a massive library of free music clips to add to your videos. Firstly, there’s Splice, a video editor that allows you to clip, trim, title, transition, add music & audio, such as voice over. The music library on app, is sorted by category, & you have the option to listen to a snippet of the clip, before insertion. Categories include Ambient, Cinematic, R&B, Pop, Reggae, & many others. Each category offers more than 20 sound clips, so you shouldn’t run out of choices.

The other, equally versatile, app by the same company is Video Music, which as the name suggests is all about editing, adding & selecting audio for your video. There music library is vast, categorized & all free for use, no attribution required.
