This time, our edit team has picked a “biggie”. ‘Pix’ by Microsoft is an artificial intelligence (AI) – assisted camera app for your iPhone.
Microsoft has incorporated facial-recognition algorithms that make the app focus primarily on optimizing the face & recognize such things as whether your subject’s eyes are open or closed. The app captures a burst of frames from the get go (before you even tap on the shutter) & takes care of adjusting exposure & focus automatically, even in difficult lighting situations, & then recognizes faces & picks the best frame, optimizing around the faces’ best features.
Users tell us that Pix is amazingly easy to use, & does not things like no other camera app, so far.
So, our edit team said, why not? It selected Pix from among all those startups/apps we featured in July, as the Most Useful Startup of the Month.
The folks at Microsoft Research may doff their hats.
