Orkut founder launches another social network – #New app

new social networking app

Remember social network of yore, orkut? Founded in 2004 by Orkut Büyükkökten & Githin Jose as an independent project within Google, orkut just too the world by storm, getting as many as 300 million users. For reason orkut was shuttered by Google.

But Orkut (the founder) decided it’s time to launch something similar. This time it’s a networking app for iOS & Android devices. Called ‘hello’, the new app doesn’t use any external data beyond the contacts in your address book to find friends.

According to a post by Orkut, hello was the 1st social network built on ‘loves’, not ‘likes’. He goes on to say: I designed hello to help you connect with people who share your passions. When you sign up, one of the first steps you’ll need to do is select five “personas” that you have an interest in, such as photographer, Burner, animal lover, actor, clubber, foodie, geek, parent, skier, traveler, or vampire. While you are limited to five, Hello gives you the option of swapping out ones you no longer are passionate about. Think about these personas as communities you want to belong to.

You can elect to use Hello in either English, French, or Portuguese.
