‘Notion’ uses artificial intelligence to solve your email overload problems

email clientThis mobile app ‘notion’ understands what’s important to you & “unclutters’ your Inbox by cleaning up extraneous stuff. It uses AI & machine learning to tailor app behavior based on your individual usage. This is claims to do by analyzing your communication with others as well as the relationships behind the messages, showing you messages that require instant responses, ordering & prioritizing messages, firing notifications & a bunch of other cool features.

Inbox overload can be a big problem for a lot of people & the folks at notion have been working at providing an innovative solution to this big headache, which has just been released. They wanted to go beyond what’s already available in apps such as Microsoft’s ‘Focused Inbox’ or Google’s ‘Priority Inbox’, by applying AI tech to solve the issue of email priorization. They analyze the level of responsiveness between people & map out introductions made between contacts to ultimately pick out messages that require a quick response.

The system provides smart reminders & prompts about mail that needs to be responded to with celerity, groups seemingly unimportant messages so they can quickly be archived. It has a ‘People’ tab that details the nature of your relationships with your contacts. The app collects loads of personal info, which it says will be kept confidential, so that it can make estimates on weather a contact will expect a response & when, who you’re likely to send an email to with the most frequency, etc. To give you additional info on which messages you should respond to 1st, Notion also highlights messages awaiting a response.

So, the most interesting features are its ‘Smart Multi-Swiping’, which allows you to get rid of unimportant messages with a single swipe, & ‘Intelligent Grouping’ which groups less important emails as you scroll through the Inbox, for easy cleanup. The ‘Radar’ tab tracks what you’re waiting on from others & with its ‘People Insights’, hidden relationships are uncovered.

Finally, the ‘Smart Notifications’, will “only alert you when it matters”. Notion claims that you can save a lot of time & increase your productivity by using their app, saying that it takes about 1 second per message to clean your Inbox.

Currently, notion is available on the iPhone & on the Android platform, & plans are in place to make it available on the iPad, as well as bring in a Web app & a desktop Windows version, & even as an Alexa skill.

Notion is a startup founded in 2013, & is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Its CEO & co-founder is Guy Suter, who previously led BitLeap, a data backup company which was later bought out by Barracuda Networks.
