New case of massive data breach – News

Coming soon after the Cambridge Analytica controversy, this new data leak by this company takes the cake. Localblox allegedly left a huge cache of profile data on a public but unlisted Amazon S3 storage bucket without even a password. Which means anyone could have downloaded its contents.

Localblox is a Bellevue, Washington, USA-based firm. A story in ZDNet said it “automatically crawls, discovers, extracts, indexes, maps & augments data in a variety of formats from the Web & from exchange networks.” Since its founding in 2010, the company has focused its collection on publicly accessible data sources, like social networks Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, & real estate site Zillow to name a few, to produce profiles.
