‘Muzzle’ silences embarrassing notifications on your Mac when screensharing – #Startup

Have you ever wished you could safely demo something on your Mac without having to worry about something popping up on your screen that might embarrass you/don’t want the world to know about? Now with ‘muzzle’, a simple Mac app, you can turn on ‘Do Not Disturb’ when screensharing starts.

It works with just about anything you can think of, like Slack, Join Me, Skype, Google Hangouts, BlueJeans, Zoom… muzzle buys you peace of mind & you can stop worrying about these embarrassing moments that could cost you a client or maybe even your job.

Muzzle was put together after a group who were discussing things on an iMessage thread with a client, among them founder Brian Burkett & Josh, a colleague on the thread, sent Brian a message about the client that macOS showed…to the client. This didn’t go over well with the client & the business being transacted went south fast.

So, in order to remedy this sort of situation in the future, Brian contacted another friend (Bryan Jones) who is a Mac developer, who then had a working build of muzzle going 5 hours later.

Readers may be aware of the fact that macOS already has a manual solution for just this situation, but muzzle goes 1 step further & automatically turns ‘Do Not Disturb’ on for you as soon as screensharing starts.

Perhaps what’s most compelling about this app is not the product itself but how it’s being marketed. The examples of embarrassing situations shown on muzzle’s landing page are hilarious & definitely worth checking out for the LOLs. You can pass an enjoyable couple of minutes checking out the texts that reminded me of very typical scenarios.

You can’t get muzzle on the Mac App Store, so you’ll have to download the app, which is free from the Muzzle site. Brian Burkett is based in San Francisco, California, USA.
