This SMS bot motivates you to do ‘OneThing’ a day that’s most important – #bots

onething

At 1 time or the other we all need to concentrate on the 1 task or life goal that we know will make us a better person, gain us fame or fortune, or simply make us feel we’ve accomplished something. It’s not easy, however, to get this 1 important thing accomplished in our modern multi-task world, & this is where this original chatbot can help us.

‘OneThing’ tries to push you to a goal every day by sending you a text every morning to set a daily goal. Every night you’ll get a text that helps you check your progress & in that way you’ll be kept accountable.

It’s a sort of commitment mechanism that helps you to set “meaningful” daily goals that should provide your life with intention towards gaining a purpose.

According to the creator of OneThing, San Francisco, California, USA-based developer, mathematician & economist, Max Deutsch, the project gets its inspiration on a journal in book form called, “The Five Minute Journal”. In this book, every morning you write out 3 goals, 3 things you are grateful for, 3 things that would make today great, etc. & every night you write down some things to reflect on, like 3 amazing things that happened today, & how could you’ve made the day better.

Max set out to find a tech-based substitute for the paper journal since it can be tough to write things out on a physical book every day. He also wanted to be able to focus on a single goal & not have to manage a diverse & disperse set of activities at the same time, & meanwhile have a mechanism for being kept accountable, which is why he turned to the simple, elegant & ubiquitous SMS platform.

You can get started with OneThing by texting HELLO to 914-888-2212 to sign up. The service is currently only available in the US. It uses an on-boarding process where it determines the time zone on the 2nd morning after activation to decide the time to send you your morning & evening texts.
