Legend is an iOS messaging app for the iPhone that helps you send animiated text messages in the form of GIF image files or short video clips.
These days, you can’t “walk” a couple of feet in the App Store, so to speak, without bumping into one or the other messaging app. This means that any new app trying to break into the marketplace has to be able to do something really special & innovative.
Well, Legend qualifies at least on this front by providing the tools to easily convert boring old text into an eye-catching image or video. It’s a huge improvement on using emoji alongside plain text, because this app can include the emoji within the animation.
You have animation inside animation which, is in turn, within a GIF or video. The multiple layers give you a lot of options to jazz up a simple text message, & all without making it any more of a hassle. You simply type your text, select the animtion style & pick the background &/or color you want for it. Bingo – you have your animated text.
You can use a photo or video from your own collection, or use the app to look for images on flickr. Oh, & you may also be able to use slow-motion videos & time-lapse videos as the background. The app allows you to send 100 characters that will appear to the recipients of the message as square Legends that are either 6-second videos or animated autoplaying GIFs.
It also has a social sharing feature, & you can share the Legends you create on social networks including Instagram, Twitter, Vine, & Facebook.
The Legend messaging app was developed by the Paris, France-based app development team at Stupeflix.
The company was founded in 2009 by Francois Lagunas, Jean-Francois Boudier, Etienne Albert, & Nicolas Steegmann. Nicolas is the company’s CEO, while Francois is the CTO & Etienne is the lead web developer.
The app works on iPhone4S & up, is much faster on newer models.
