[sg_popup id=”12″ event=”onload”][/sg_popup]Grasshopper is a new cross-platform mobile app created by a team of developers from Google’s area 120. This is a Google incubator that works specifically on experimental products. With CEO Laura Holmes being at the helm, the group created a smartphone app that could teach newcomers some coding basics.

People no longer need to study basic coding in a traditional classroom setting. Anyone can do it on either their Android or iOS devices. This makes it not only easy to learn to program but it also makes it convenient as most people have their smartphones with them at all times.

Knowledge of computer programming will enable people to pursue mobile app development or Website creation & easily navigate various features on personal computers. It can also help in career advancement in the IT field.

Users will get short lessons on how to code with the goal to make them proficient in computer programming basics & fundamentals. Just like any other learning environment, the courses get more difficult as one advances in skill. The point of this is so that students can use previously learned knowledge & apply it in advanced stages of the learning process. Having such knowledge could very well serve as a bedrock for learning more about programming.

Anybody familiar with programming will know that there is more than 1 coding language used in the development of computer programs & smartphone apps. Some of these include Java, C, Python, Ruby & JavaScript. The programming language used in the learning app is JavaScript. The team does happen to mention on the Website that for the time being, it was not looking to develop curriculum for other programming languages.

Some of the features included in the phone app include real time feedback so that a student may gauge their performance & learn from past mistakes. The CEO was quoted in TechCrunch as having said that puzzles were used to initiate an interactive learning environment, & the student has to solve the puzzles by using JavaScript code. There are also motivational features that include progress indicators & achievements.

The cross-platform smartphone app was launched in 2018. The team has already confirmed it will be looking to add to the curriculum an extra course or two, & also hopes to expand on some of the fundamentals.

Users will not need to pay to acquire the app & the information within as it is completely free.
